Currently, LCMHCs (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors) cannot bill insurance for comprehensive ADHD or Autism assessments because:
CPT Code Limitations – The CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes reimbursed by insurance for psychological testing and neuropsychological assessments (e.g., 96130–96146) are designated for licensed psychologists or neuropsychologists, not LCMHCs. However, we are trained and specialized to diagnose both ADHD and Autism in Adults.
Because of this, these services are private-pay only — ensuring clients receive a thorough, individualized evaluation without the constraints of insurance-driven time limits or requirements.
